Heterosis and combining ability studies carried out in a 8 x 8 dianel of urdbeanrevealed the highest heterosis and heterobeltiosis of 185,74% and 153,94% respectively for seed yield per plant in the hybrid K-4686 x HPU-7, High heterosis for seed yield was manifested through components heterosis viz pods/plant and clusters/plant. Estimation of components of variance revealed the predominance of non-additive gene action for all the characters under study. The parents PLU-460 and BGP69 were the best combiners for seed yield/plant, pods/plant and cluster/plant while K-4686 and BGP-69 for earliness. The crosses K-4686 x HPU-7, BGP-230 x BGP-69, NP-1l-19 x BGP-69, PLU-710 x SGP69 and PLU-460 x BGP-230 were identified as best specific combiners for seed yield and its components.
