<div style="text-align:justify">Background: Blackgram (Vigna mungo L.), commonly known as urdbean, mash, black mapte and other names, is a popular short-season pulse crop farmed throughout India. This crop is extensively sown in conjunction with various cropping systems under residual moisture conditions after wheat harvest as summer crops under irrigated conditions and due to its high protein and carbohydrate content, as well as its short duration crop, it is suitable in summer crop grown between wheat and rice. 
 
Methods: Field experiments was carried out during two consecutive summer seasons of 2018-19 and 2019-20 to study residual effect of biofertilizer and foliar nutrition on plant height and yield attributes of summer blackgram (Vigna mungo) under different fertility levels at the Research Farm, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST- J, Chatha. The experiment was laid out in split-split plot design with three factors replicated thrice.&nbsp; 
 
Result: Maximize residual effect of nutrients on blackgram after raised wheat as a major crop among the fertility levels including biofertilizer and foliar application, recommended dose fertilizer achieved, growth parameters viz, yield attributing characters, number of pods/plants, number of grains /plants, 1000-grains weight, seed yield, stover yield and harvest index as compared to 75% of RDF. However, control recorded lowest values of all growth, yield attributing parameter and yield of blackgram crop. Whereas, soil application of biofertilizer consortium recorded higher plant height and yield attributing characters of blackgram in comparison to seed treatment with biofertilizer consortium applied in wheat as main crop. Among the foliar application of 2% of NPK (19:19:19) higher values of growth character, yield and yield attributing parameters of blackgram were recorded in foliar application of 2% NPK (19:19:19) at flowering stage as compared to tillering and tillering + flowering stages of wheat crop during both the years. Economics of blackgram in terms of net return and B:C ratio was influenced by residual effect of various applied in wheat crop and recorded higher in RDF fertility, soil application of biofertilizer consortium and foliar application of 2% NPK at flowering stage.</div>

Residual Effect of Fertility Levels, Biofertilizer and Foliar Nutrition on Yield and Yield Attributes of Summer Blackgram (Vigna mungo L.) in Wheat-blackgram Cropping System under Subtropical Conditions in Jammu

Background: Farmers&rsquo; conventional tillage and residue removal practices in rice-maize-greengram systems in India are input-intensive, costly and soil degradative. A number of soil quality issues have emerged due to continuous cropping and burning of residues threatening the sustainability of rice based cropping systems for the last more than four decades. Nevertheless, the in-situ or in-field decomposition of crop residue using microbial inoculum is rarely studied. This necessitated the use of microbial consortia developed by a combination of potent strains of fungi which can perform harmoniously for rapid decomposition of crop residues. 
 
Methods: A field experiment was conducted during 2020-21 and 2021-22 with eight residue-management treatments and three fertility levels to zero till maize at college farm, Rajendranagar, PJTSAU using strip plot design and the residual effect on the succeeding greengram was studied. 
 
Result: Greengram growth and yield were significantly higher under residual effect of incorporation of residues treated with microbial consortia consisting of Trichoderma viridae, Aspergillus awamori and Phanerocheate spp. along with 300:100:100 kg ha-1 of N, P2O5 and K2O (125% RDF) and P supplied in the form of single super phosphate (SSP) under zero tillage during summer, 2021 and 2022. Growth parameters like plant height, leaf area index, dry matter production and yield attributes like number of pods plant-1, pod length and number of seeds pod-1 in greengram were higher under residue incorporated plots compared to residue burning, removal and retention plots with 125% RDF.

Residual Effects of Microbial Treated Paddy Residues Applied to Zero Till Maize on Growth and Yield of Summer Greengram

Background: Rice-vegetable is one of the remunerative and profitable cropping system in Odisha to be grown in kharif and rabi season respectively. From GPS based soil survey and analysis by AICRP on Micronutrient, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, it was observed that boron deficiency was widespread in soils of Odisha (8-79%) and is a major constraint in light texture sandy loam soils under vegetable production. Growing of a shallow rooted crop like rice as direct crop followed by a deep-rooted vegetable crop can utilize leached Boron efficiently from subsoil thereby benefitting both rice and vegetable. Farmers in coastal Odisha generally grow knol-khol after rice and apply B frequently to both rice and knol-khol. Boron is one of the essential micronutrients required for the normal growth of knol-khol and plays an important role in yield of quality knobs. Till now no proper method and dose of boron is standardized for long term rice based vegetable cropping system regarding whether application of small dose every year is suitable or bulk quantity once or application in alternate years. &nbsp; 
 
Methods: A field experiment was conducted at E bock of Central Research Station, under AICRP on Micronutrient, O.U.A.T, Bhubaneswar to standardize the dose and frequency of boron application for rice-knol khol cropping system where boron is applied to first crop and knol-khol gets residual boron. In the present investigation residual effect of different graded doses of boron and its frequency of application on growth, yield, quality, post-harvest shelf life and economics of knol-khol for the year 2018-19 was studied. The experiment was laid out in a Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications and four different doses of boron (0.5 kg ha-1, 1.0 kg ha-1, 1.5 kg ha-1 and 2.0 kg ha-1) at three different frequencies (application of boron once, alternate year and every year) were applied. 
 
Result: The maximum values of growth attributing parameters were recorded with residual effect of boron @ 1.5 kg ha-1 in every year application. Highest yield and yield attributing characters such as diameter of knob (8.70 cm), length of knob (6.53 cm) and total knob yield (224.72 q ha-1) were recorded with residual effect of boron @ 1.5 kg ha-1 in every year application. Highest B: C ratio of (2.27) was observed with residual effect of boron applied @ 1.5 kg ha-1 in every year application.

Residual Effect of Boron on Yield, Yield Parameters and Economics of Knol-Khol (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes L.) in Coastal Regions of Odisha

To study various forms of tillage and residue management, and the timing of such operations for lentil (Lens culinaris, L) agriculture after wheat (Triticum turgidum sp. durum) harvest in rainfed areas of South-East Anatolia Region of Turkey, ten different treatments were evaluated for three years from 2002 to 2005. According to statically analysis results of data obtained from experiment, the effect of treatments on weed density was significant. Secondary tillage after rainfall reduced both grassy and broadleaf weed density. The residue burning didn&rsquo;t significantly reduce weed density. Late plantings gave significantly higher lentil seed yield than early plantings. The T9 treatment which was residue chopping + summer chisel + cultivator after rainfall + late planting gave the highest grain yield and net benefit. The other treatments were dominated due to less net benefit and higher costs that vary. Therefore, they were considered as uneconomical treatments.&nbsp;

Effect of tillage and crop residues management on lentil (Lens culinaris L.) yield, some yield components and weed density in rainfed areas of Turkey

Background: To work out the residual effect of rice residue, FYM and fertilizers on summer moong (Vigna radiate L.) in Rice-potato-summer moong cropping system. 
&nbsp; 
Methods: The present study was carried out at research farm, department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with two factors. Factor A contains&nbsp; five nutrient management treatments in potato (Rice residue+ 125 % NPK + 25 t ha-1&nbsp;FYM, Rice residue+ 100%&nbsp; NPK + 25 tha-1&nbsp;FYM, Rice residue+ 75 % NPK + 25 tha-1&nbsp;FYM, Rice residue + 125% NPK + 0 tha-1&nbsp;FYM and Without rice residue + 100% NPK+ 50 tha-1&nbsp;FYM) and factor B contains three&nbsp; nitrogen levels in&nbsp; summer moong&nbsp; (0 kg ha-1&nbsp;N, 6.25 kg ha-1&nbsp;N and 12.5 kg ha-1&nbsp;N ).

Result: The plant height, branches, dry matter accumulation, LAI and chlorophyll content index were significantly affected with the treatments applied to preceding potato crop. The application of rice residue+ 125% NPK + 25 tha-1&nbsp;FYM to potato crop resulted significantly higher plant height, branches, dry matter accumulation, LAI and chlorophyll content index of moong crop as compared to rice residue+ 75% NPK + 25 t ha-1&nbsp;FYM and rice residue+ 125% NPK + 0 tha-1&nbsp;FYM while at par to rice residue+ 100% NPK + 25 tha-1&nbsp;FYM and without rice residue + 100 % NPK+ 50 tha-1&nbsp;FYM. The significantly higher biometric parameters were observed with 12.5 kg ha-1&nbsp;N which was significantly higher than the 0 and 6.25 5 kg ha-1 N. The application of rice residue+ 125% NPK + 25 t ha-1&nbsp;FYM to potato crop resulted significantly higher yield and yield attributing characters as compared to rice residue+ 75% NPK + 25 t ha-1&nbsp;FYM and rice residue+ 125% NPK + 0 tha-1&nbsp;FYM while at par to rice residue+ 100% NPK + 25 tha-1&nbsp;FYM and without rice residue + 100% NPK 50 tha-1&nbsp;FYM. The application of higher dose of nitrogen @ 12 kg ha-1&nbsp;also significantly increased the yield and yield attributing characters as compared to lower doses of summer moong. The nutrients uptake ( N,P and K) was also maximum with rice residue+ 125% NPK + 25 t ha-1&nbsp;FYM which was at par to rice residue+ 100% NPK + 25 tha-1&nbsp;FYM and without rice residue + 100% NPK+ 50 tha-1&nbsp;FYM while significantly higher than other treatment. The application of higher dose of nitrogen @ 12 kgha-1&nbsp;in summer moong also significantly increased the nutrient uptake and protein content as compared to lower doses.

Residual Effect of Rice Residue, Fym and Fertilizers on Growth, Yield and Quality of Summer Moong (Vigna radiata L.) in Rice-Potato-Summer Moong Cropping System

Background: Agricultural crop diversification is an important stress relieving option for economic growth of the farming community. Integration of pulses in crop rotation helps in&nbsp;sustainability enhancing overall productivity and profitability of&nbsp;the cropping system. Broad bean (Vicia faba L.) is one of the important pulse crop of Manipur grown in the cool season. 
&nbsp; 
Methods: The Present investigation was carried out at Central Agricultural University, Imphal during the kharif and rabi season of 2021-22 and 2022-23. The kharif rice experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 8 treatments as main plot replicated three times. During rabi season each main plot treatment was split into three sub plot treatments with three levels of recommended dose of fertilizers to broad bean resulting in twenty four treatment combinations replicated three times in split plot design.

Result: Residual effect of 100% RDF + Azolla + Azospirillum + Neem powder (N5) applied to previous kharif rice crop recorded significantly higher yield attributes, seed and stover yields and economic of&nbsp;&nbsp; broad bean. Among the levels of RDF directly applied to rabi broad bean, application of 100% RDF (F2) resulted in higher values of yield attributes, seed and stover yields and economic of broad bean.

Effect of Different Levels of Fertilizer and Residual Effect of INM on Yields and Economic of Broad bean under Black Aromatic Rice-Broad bean Cropping Sequence

<div>Background: Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the important cereal crops of world. Its multiple uses in food industry made it most demanded crop, but the productivity in India is still low. Inclusion of legumes in the cropping system can help in restoring soil fertility in incredible ways hence, enhancing the crop productivity. 
 
Methods: A field experiment was conducted at B. A. College of Agriculture, AAU, Anand during summer-kharif seasons of years 2017 and 2018 to examine the impact of legume crop residue and nitrogen levels on maize crop. Experiment comprised of three legume crops grown in summer season viz., green gram, groundnut and cluster bean, two residue management treatments viz., residue removal and incorporation and three nitrogen levels in kharif maize viz., 100%, 75% and 50% recommended dose of nitrogen.&nbsp; 
 
Result: Cluster bean-maize cropping system followed by groundnut-maize cropping system observed for the highest improvement in growth parameters, yield attribute and grain and straw yield. Residue incorporation of summer legumes and full dose of nitrogen in maize was found significant for increasing growth and yield parameters and grain yield of maize. Study indicate that residue incorporation had positive effects on maize growth and yield, however incorporation was not able to reduce the nitrogen requirement through chemical means.</div>

Effect of Inclusion of Legumes in Cropping System and their Residue Incorporation on the Yield of Maize

<div>Background: Bio-recycling of crop residues is contemplated as an environment friendly soil enrichment and conservation practice that sustains agricultural productivity in the long run. Legume residues are privileged by the unique nitrogen fixing capacity and rhizospheric properties that enhance soil fertility, thereby reducing the need for chemical nutrient inputs. The present study was conducted to evaluate the residual effect of red gram on fodder maize cultivated as succeeding crop in the southern laterites of Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, India. 
 
Methods: The field experiment to assess the effect of red gram residue incorporation on the growth and yield of fodder maize was carried out in the Instructional Farm, College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Kerala during June - August 2019. Fodder maize (African tall) was sown in the plots after incorporation of crop residues of red gram varieties (APK 1 and Vamban (Rg) 3) grown under different planting geometry (40 cm x 20 cm and 60 cm x 30 cm) and NPK doses (40:80:40, 30:60:30 and 20:40:20 kg NPK ha-1) and compared with the package of practices recommendation and in randomized block design (RBD) replicated thrice.&nbsp; 
 
Result: Significantly higher quantities of red gram residues were realised and incorporated in the treatments involving a planting geometry of 40 cm x 20 cm and an NPK dose of 40:80:40 kg NPK ha-1 in both varieties used, Vamban (Rg) 3 and APK 1 (T7 and T1).&nbsp; Nutrient contents in the residues and decomposition in T1 and T7 resulted in the maximum additions in soil, available N, P and K status and dehydrogenase activity. Evaluation of the residual effects of the legume on fodder maize revealed the significantly highest growth and yields in maize raised with chemical fertilizers as per package recommendation and, among the residue incorporated treatments, maximum plant height and fodder yields were recorded in the treatment in which residues of Vamban (Rg) 3 raised at 40 cm x 20 cm spacing and fertilised with 40:80:40 kg NPK ha-1&nbsp; were incorporated, on par with variety APK 1 raised under same management practice. The green fodder yield with residue incorporation was 80-90 per cent that under chemical fertilizer managed treatment. Among the quality parameters, crude protein (9.30%) was the highest with chemical fertilizer application while carbohydrate content (66.23%) was the lowest.</div>

Residual Effects of Red Gram [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] on Growth, Yield and Quality of Fodder Maize (Zea mays L.)

<div style="text-align: justify;">A field experiment was conducted during 2014 at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Malaysia, &nbsp;to evaluate the effect of incorporation of crop residues with supplemental inorganic fertilizers on yield and quality of maize crop. &nbsp;Treatments included an unfertilized control, incorporation of maize residue, soybean residue and a mixture of maize and soybean residue with and without phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and the use of a complete inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Results showed that soybean and maize + soybean residue applied without inorganic fertilizers or with inorganic fertilizer (phosphorus and potassium) increased maize yield and enhanced grain quality of maize. However, incorporation of maize residue without supplemental inorganic fertilizer was ineffective in increasing grain cob yield (11,237 kg/ha) and grain quality ( 11.1% protein content, 10.9 o brix sugar content and 4.77% oil content) of the maize crop above that of control (10,323 kg/ha green cob yield, 8.30 % protein content, 9.00 o brix sugar content and 4.77% oil content). The application of soybean residue with supplemental phosphorus and potassium fertilizer gave maize yield (37,290 kg/ha) similar to that of the complete inorganic fertilizer treatment (36,500 kg/ha). Therefore, inorganic nitrogen fertilizer can be replaced with soybean residues without any reduction in maize yield and grain quality.&nbsp;</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Effect of incorporation of crop residue and inorganic fertilizer on yield and grain quality of maize&nbsp;</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Field experiment was conducted during summer season of 2010 and 2011, to assess the residual influence of organic manures and micro nutrients applied to potato on growth and yield of succeeding green gram in an organic cropping system, under alluvial soil. The different sources of organic and micronutrients were integrated into 8 possible treatments viz. &nbsp;recommended dose of fertilizer-RDF (NPK @ 200 :150 :150 kg ha-1) , 50% of RDF + well decomposed FYM @ 10t ha-1, 50% of RDF + Neemcake @ 0.5t ha-1,RDF+ Zinc sulphate @ 20kg ha-1 as soil application, RDF + ammonium molybdate @ 1kg ha-1 as soil application, RDF + Sodium tetraborate @ 1kg ha-1 as soil application, RDF + Tuber soaking with 40g zinc sulphate + 10g ammonium molybdate &nbsp;+ 10g sodium tetraborate, RDF + foliar spray of 1% KNO3 salt. After harvesting the main crop, green gram was raised as a residual crop on the same field without any alternation. During both the years of investigation, all the growth and yield attributes, yield (seed as well as haulm), of green gram were at their best with the residual effect of organic manure either with or without the use of chemical fertilizers. Growth, grain and haulm yields of green gram were significantly increased by the residual effect of organic manure and micro nutrients applied to the previous crop. Application of organic manure at the rate of 50% RDF + 10t FYM ha-1, recorded highest grain and haulm yields of 952.05 and 2638.85 kg ha-1 respectively. Though residual effect of micro nutrients has significant effect on growth, grain and stover yield of succeeding Green gram, the yield are reduced drastically.&nbsp;</div>
