1Regional Agricultural Research Station,

ABSTRACT
Soybean, grown as sole crop and as an intercrop with cotton and pigeonpea, was sown at four
different sowing dates starting from the onset of monsoon during the year 2001-02 and 2002-03
under rainfed conditions. Soybean sown on 22nd July, 2001 and 30th July, 2002 performed better and recorded significantly higher growth, yield attributes and yield as compared to other sowings in both the years. Soybean sown with the onset of monsoon, i.e.8th June, 2001 and 14th June, 2002, took more days to mature as compared to later sowing dates. The performance of soybean in the pigeonpea intercropping was similar to the sole crop recording significantly higher seed yield and yield attributes at 22 July, 2001 and 30 July, 2002 sowing dates than the other three dates. However, soybean as an intercrop with cotton gave highest yield when sown on and after 22 July, 2001 and 30 July, 2002.
