CHENOPODIUMALBUMCOMPETITION WITH WHEAT (TRITICUMAESTIVUML.) IN RESPECT TO NITROGEN AND GRAIN YIELD
1Departmlmts of Agronomy and Crop Physiology,
University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakista9
ABSTRACT
The effect of methods of fertilizer application and competition periods on N concentration and its uptake byChenopodium album L. and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were studied. Experiment was laid out in split plot design keeping fertilizer application methods, side placement and broadcast incorporate in main plots and competition for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 weeks after emergence and full season in sub-plots. Dry weight of C. album was significantly more in broadcast incorporate method of fertilizer application. There was linear increase in dry weight of C. album with increase in competititon period. N concentration and its uptake by C. album was more in broadcast incorporate method than side-placement. Whereas wheat showed high concentration and uptake of N in side placement. Grain yield decreased significantly beyond 3–4 weeks after emergence
