STUDIES ON PATH CO-EFFICIENT ANALYSIS OF HARVEST INDEX AND ITS RELATED TRAITS IN WHEAT
1Department of Plant Breeding,
CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar - 125004, India
ABSTRACT
A study was undertaken with nine bread wheat genotypes crossed in a 9x9 set of diilllel design, excluding reciprocals in normal and stress environments to examine the relationship between pair of characters and impact of component traits on grain yield. Simple correlation analysis revealed strong positive correlation of harvest index with graiit yield and significant negative association with total biomass in both the environments. From the path coefficient analysis it was observed that total biomass and harvest index accounted for the major portion of genetic variability for yield in both the environments. However, deletion of harvest index from path analysis revealed that total biomass and grains per ear accounted for the major portion of variability. Thus improvement of total biomass, harvest index and grains per ear may be taken into consideration for improving the productivity of wheat crop.
