Regional Station, COimbatore 641 003, India
ABSTRACT
The chlorination treatment given to 17 cotton genotypes and a hybrid was evaluated initially and two months after ambient storage projected the significant superiority of chlorine treatment in respect to seed germination, root length, shoot length, drymatter production of seedling, computed vigour index and electrical conductivity of seed leachate. The genotypes Supriya, TCB 209, HB 224, H 777, MUC 5 and M 12 possessed better storability while TCH 1218 and Uppam cotton were poor. The remaining ten genotypes fell in-between. The seed quality parameters did not bring out similar results to categorically delineate the genotype as good, medium and poor stores. However, in respect to the effect of chlorination treatment on seed quality did not show any deviation. The chlorine treatment contained the storage fungi to almost fifty per cent level.
