ABSTRACT
Results of two years field study (1998–1999) on microbial status, symbiotic parameters, nitrogenase activity and yield of green gram revealed slight but non-significant increase of microbial pupulation over control by various strains of Bradyrhizobium inoculation after the harvest of the crop. The effect of Bradyhizobiuminoculation on number, dry weight of nodules per plant and the nitrogenase activity was found to be significant. The significantly maximum values of these symbiotic characters were recorded at pre flowering stage after inoculating seeds with the local isolate of Bradyrhizobium culture and thereafter all these parameters showed a declining trend. Local isolate proved to be the best with respect to inoculation treatment as significantly highest seed yield was found in seeds treated with local strain as compared to other exotic strains and control.
