EFFECT OF PLANTING TIME ON THE APPEARANCE AND SEVERITY OF WHITE RUST AND POWDERY MILDEW DISEASES·OF MUSTARD
1Department of Plant Pathology, C.P. College of Agriculture,

ABSTRACT
Powdery mildew (Erysiphe crucileraum Opiz. ex Junnel) and white rust (Albugo cruciferarum S.F. Gray) are important diseases of mustard and reported to cause heavy losses in grain yield. Fungicidal spray and resistant varieties are oftenly recommended for the management of these diseases. In the present study, six different sowing dates at 10 days intelVai starting from 5th October in two commonly cultivated mustard cultivars viz., GM-1 and Varuna were tried. Results revealed that early planting of mustard with either GM-1 or Varuna in the October resulted in less severity of white rust and powdery mildew diseases and recorded higher grain yield than late planting during November.
