EFFECT OF GROWTH REGULATORS ON YIELD OF KALAZIRA (BUNIUM PERSICUMUNN.)
1Department of Plant Physiology,
Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidalya, Palampur - 176062, India
ABSTRACT
Experiments were conducted to study the effect of growth regulators GA 3 and IAA on per cent sprouting of Kalazira tubers, plant height and branches per plant. Pre-treatment with GA 3 at 500 ppm significantly increased the per cent sprouting, plant height and branches/plant than IAA. Exogenous application of GA 3 significantly increased the number of mericarp per umbel and umblets which is of economic importance. Kalazira harvested from tubers grown at HPKV, Palampur also showed marked improvement in size and length with sharp ridges over mericarps. The probable role of chilling in stimulating the production of GA 3 like substance which in turn modulate the growth and development of Kalazira is also discussed.
