STUDIES ON ISOZYME POLYMORPHISM FOR IDENTIFICATION OF COTTON GENOTYPES
1Department of Seed Science & Technology,
College of Agriculture, Hyderabad – 500 030, India
ABSTRACT
The present study was carried out with the objective to detect the polymorphism among eighteen genotypes of Gossypium hirsutum and four genotypes of Gossypium arboreum by alkaline Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE) of isozymes (esterases and alcohol dehydrogenases). Esterases pattern was useful in the detection of interspecific and intraspecific variation among the cotton genotypes. The esterase polymorphism was found to discriminate the hybrid from its parental lines. The alcohol dehydrogenase profiles did not exhibit polymorphism to the extent which will be helpful in the identification of all the cotton genotypes.
