AGROBACTERIUM RHIZOGENE MEDIATED TRANSFORMATION OF NIGER [GUIZOTIA ABYSSINICA (L.F.) CASS.]
1Department of Botany, Rajaram College,
Kolhapur - 416 004, India.
ABSTRACT
A protocol was developed for Agrobacterium rhizogene mediated transformation of Niger (Guizotia abyssinica (L.f.) Cass.). Co-cultivation of cotyledons from one week old plantlets with Agrobacterium rhizogene strain ATCC15834 induces negatively geotropic hairy roots directly from explants without intermediate stage i.e. callus on MS medium, supplemented with 1 mg/l of 6-Benzyl amino purine (BAP). Transformation was confirmed on the basis of formation of negatively geotropic hairy roots compared with control.
