CHARACTER ASSOCIATION AND PATH COEFFICIENT STUDIES IN ASHGOURD [BENINCASA HISPIDA (THUNB.) CONGN.]
1Department of Olericulture, College of Agriculture, Vellayani,
Thiruvananthapuram - 695 522, India
ABSTRACT
Correlation and path coefficient studies were worked out for 25 genotypes of ashgourd of different geographical origin. Fruit length, fruit girth, average fruit weight, seeds per fruit and 1000-seed weight had positive and significant correlation with yield. The positive direct effect on yield was revealed by fruit length, average fruit weight and fruits per plant. Therefore, these traits may be considered as the most reliable selection indices for effective improvement in fruit yield in ashgourd.
