ASSESSMENT OF GAMMA RAYS INDUCED VARIABILITY IN M2 GENERATION OF FENUGREEK (TR1GONELLA FOENUM GRAECUMJ*
1Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding
Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, Campus-Jobner-303 329, India
ABSTRACT
A study was carried out for the assessment of magnitude of variability induced by
various doses of gamma irradiations viz. 20, 30, 40 dnd 50 Kr in M2 progenies of fenugreek
variety Rmt-1. The evaluation of 96 M2 progenies grown in CRD for various yield
attributing characters indicated significant differences between the progenies for plant height,
number of branches/plant, pods/plant, seeds/plant, pod length, grain yield/plant, 100 seed
weight and days to maturity. Based on high mean and CV progenies 10, 25, 28, 77 and 92
were found to have desirable character combinations and selection can be made for desirable
plant type for crop improvement programme in fenugreek.
