SCREENING OF SOME BRINJAL CULTIVARs AGAINST BACTERIAL WILT AND FRUITBORER

ABSTRACT
Nine genotypes of brlnjal (Solanum melongena L.) viz., Arka Kesav, Arka Neelkanth,
Hisar Shyamal, Pusa Purple Cluster, Pusa Purple Long, SM 6-6, SM 6-7, Arka Nldhl and
Punjab Barsatl were evaluated from 1996·98 for the incidence of bacterial wilt and attack of
fruit and shoot borer In mid hills of Himachal Pradesh. The genotypes Arka Kesav, Arka
Neelkanth, Arka Nldhl and SM 6·6 were observed to be resistant to bacterial wilt whereas
fruit borer incidence In these varieties varied from 2.88 (Arka Kesav) to 5.64 (SM 6·6) per
cent. Apart from this, these cultlvars also possessed good agronomic traits.
