PLANT LOSS DURING SSD SCHEME IN COWPEA
1Gujarat Agricultural University, Sardar Krushinagar-385506, India
ABSTRACT
Plant loss during SSD scheme was studied In segregating (F2 to F5) generations of four cowpea crosses viz., Pusa Phalguni x V269, GC 1 x RC 8, GC 2 x V 16 and GC 2 x V 240. There was drastic reduction in the population size from F2 to F5 primarily due to poor germination and barren plants due to diseases. The highest plant loss was observed in F5 of GC 1 x RC 8 (51.17%) followed by F2 of the same cross (27.86%) and in F4 of GC 2 x V 240 (25.04%). The plant loss did not seem to be related to generation but depends on the experimental material and the condition of the experiment.
