EFFECT OF NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS LEVELS AND RATIOS ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF SUNFLOWER (HELIANTHUS ANNUUS L.)
1Department of Agronomy,
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore - 641 003, India
ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted during khari 1999 under rainfed condition on medium black clay soils, to study the effect of different nitrogen and phosphorus levels and ratios on yield and quality of hybrid sunflower (DSH-1). Seed yield was significantly higher in the treatments receiving NIP ratio of 1.0 (120 kg each of N and P2O5 ha−1) and NIP ratio of >1.0 (120 kg N and 75 kg P2O5 ha−1) fertilizer levels as compared to other ratios and levels. However, higher nitrogen content (3.66%), more protein content (22.89%), higher oil content (41.46%), maximum oil yield (1491 kg ha−1) and higher nitrogen uptake (186.27 kg ha−1) at maturity stage were obtained in the treatment receiving NIP ratio of 1.0 (120 kg N and 120 kg P2O5 ha−1) fertilizer level as compared to other ratios and control. Seed yield and alI quality paranieters were also better in this treatment compared to existing fertilizer recommendation, i.e. NIP ratio of
