Effect of locally available organic material viz., pressmud and FYM were studied on growth characteristics and yield of mash crop (Vigna mungo L.) on a sandy loam soil at cultivator’s field during kharif 2003 and 2004 in Gurdaspur district (Punjab). Application of FYM as well as pressmud @ 2.5 t/ha along with one fourth of the state recommended dose of fertilizers recorded maximum yields of mash crop. Similar trend was also observed for the various growth attributes like number of pods per plant, plant height and 100 grain weight.
