LONG TERM-APPLICATION OF FERTILIZER NUTRIENTS ON PRODUCTIVITY OF RICE UNDER RICE-RICE CROPPING SEQUENCE IN AN INCEPTISOL
1Soil and Water Management Research Institute, Thanjavur - 613 501, Tamil Nadu, India.
ABSTRACT
With a view to measure the long term changes in yield, soil nutrient supply by the continuous application of inorganic fertilizers in the rice-rice cropping sequence under controlled condition, a long term fertility experiment has been initiated during the year kharif 1997. Over eight years among the different nutrient treatments tried both in kharif and rabi seasons revealed lower grain yield in control plot and the NPK2 treatment recorded higher grain yield which was on par with NPK1 followed by NK. The higher grain yield was recorded in the newly introduced SSNM treatment which was on par with NPK2 and NPK1. Among all treatments the SSNM treatment (LCC based N, P15 and K80) performed better in improving rice productivity than blanket and NPK treatments though the higher dose of NPK2 recorded slightly higher yield. The balanced optimum application of N, P and K necessary to get increased rice productivity.
