WETTING PATTERN AND SALT DISTRIBUTION IN DRIP AND MICRO SPRINKLER IRRIGATION
1Deptt. of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering,
PDKV, Akola - 444 005, India
ABSTRACT
A study was conducted at the research farm of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. Mechanical and chemical analysis of the soil was done. From the moisture content it was revealed that the horizontal spread at 91 lit/h discharge rate of micro sprinkler and 4 lit/h of drip irrigation for 1 h and 2 h was 3 m and 0.6 m respectively on the soil surface. The depth attained by the outermost moisture profile in shallow soil was lowest as compared to deep and medium types of soil for 1 h and 2 h operation. In drip and micro sprinkler with the increase in water application, the moisture content of soil increased horizontally and vertically. The moisture content was in the range of 76 to 100 % and 71 to 100 % of field capacity under micro sprinkler and drip irrigation. In both the irrigation systems the accumulation of salt was found to be maximum at the periphery of wetted area.
