Goat is one of the main contributors of milk and meat products. Goat milk is different from cow and human milk in composition, nutritional and therapeutic attributes. The compositional differences are of significance in indicating the technological suitability for goat milk processing and its products. The differences in composition of cow milk and goat milk may result into the products with different sensory characteristics, nutritional and therapeutic values. &nbsp;Goat milk contains higher amount of Ca, Mg and P than cow and human milk but vitamin D, vitamin B12 and folate contents are less. Goat milk is recommended for infants, old and convalescent people. Three fatty acids viz., caproic, caprylic and capric have great medicinal values for patients suffering from a variety of ailments. Further, it is worthwhile to compare the milk of goats with that of cows and note benefits or limitations which may result from differences found. Goat milk products other than cheese and pasteurized milk are considered to be the diary products with greatest marketing potential. Therefore, several characteristic of goat milk are currently the focus of increased research interest. Fermented goat milk incorporating live probiotic cells represent a group of products with great prospects in the future with regard to their nutritive and therapeutic properties.&nbsp;

Composition, nutritional and therapeutic values of goat milk: A review

<div>Background: Species threatening is of great concern now-a-days, for Bangladesh as well as the whole world. Present research work has been carried out to make an inventory of the medicinal species of family Fabaceae, determine their status in the flora of Bangladesh and assess their probable threat.&nbsp; 
 
Methods: Research was carried out at the University of Chittagong during the period 2014-2016 by the first author as part of her thesis work. Previous records of species were collected from different literatures dating back to 1814 and their place of occurrence was recorded as well. Medicinal literatures were consulted for screening of medicinal species of Fabaceae. Herbarium specimens preserved at different herbaria were examined for updating the time of their collection. Finally field trips were made to relevant localities for assessing their status in the field condition.&nbsp; 
 
Result: The present study reveals that out of 254 total species, 169 species under 61 genera have medicinal properties. In this investigation, 7 species under 7 genera were identified and documented as Critically Endangered according to International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources criteria. Enumeration of these threatened taxa is provided with updated nomenclature and short annotation with data on medicinal value, recorded locality, global distribution, first and last authentic record and list of specimens available at different herbaria.</div>

<div>Investigation through Bangladesh Flora: Critically Endangered Medicinal Species of Fabaceae</div>

Background: Rice being staple food has qualities beyond its nutritive value with high digestibility and least allergic properties compared to other cereal grains. Research on exploring the nutritional value of traditional rice varieties with its inherent medicinal values and productivity has poor documentation and hence should be encouraged and supported. Field experiment was conducted with the objective to study the productivity of medicinal rice varieties as influenced by nutrient sources (inorganic and organic) and soil conditions (reduced and oxidized) under direct seeded rice. 
 
Methods: A field experiment was conducted in the wetland during Rabi season (October-February) at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore with an objective to study the effect of crop establishment of medicinal rice varieties as influenced with nutrient sources and soil conditions under direct seeded rice. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with three replications. The treatments consisted of soil conditions (reduced, oxidized) as one factor, sources of nutrients (inorganic, organic) as the second factor and four medicinal rice varieties (Black Kavuni, Red Kavuni, Local Kavuni and Njavara) as the third factor. 
 
Result: The reduced condition and inorganic source of nutrient recorded higher plant height, maximum tiller population dry matter production, leaf area index, panicle length, higher number of spikelet panicle-1, 1000-grain weight and filled grains. Among the medicinal rice varieties, Red Kavuni recorded higher growth parameters and yield attributes. From the above results, it could be concluded that Red Kavuni medicinal rice under a reduced condition with inorganic nutrients resulted in higher growth parameters and yield attributes.

An Experimental Study on Productivity and Bio-molecular Compounds of Direct-Seeded Medicinal Rice Varieties as Influenced by Nutrient Sources and Soil Conditions

Background: Euchresta tubulosa is a medicinal plant in the Fabaceae family, traditionally used in Chinese herbal medicine for treating ailments such as sore throat and esophageal cancer. Despite its pharmacological importance and endangered status, no complete chloroplast genome data had been reported for this species or its genus prior to this study. Chloroplast genomes, being highly conserved and maternally inherited, serve as powerful tools for species identification, phylogenetic inference and genetic diversity assessment in plants. 
 
Methods: Fresh leaves of E. tubulosa were collected and genomic DNA was extracted using the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) method. High-throughput sequencing was carried out on the Illumina NovaSeq6000 platform. Clean reads were assembled into a complete chloroplast genome using NovoPlasty, with a related species as the seed reference. Genome annotation was performed using DOGMA and validated manually. Codon usage patterns were analyzed using RSCU values and simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified with MISA software. A maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree was constructed using PhyML, based on complete chloroplast genome sequences from 14 related species. 
 
Result: The assembled chloroplast genome of E. tubulosa measured 153,960 bp and exhibited a typical quadripartite structure, comprising a large single-copy region (LSC), a small single-copy region (SSC) and two inverted repeats (IRs). The overall GC content was 36.3%. A total of 127 genes were identified, including 44 related to photosynthesis, 72 involved in self-replication, 5 with other biological roles and 6 hypothetical or unknown genes. Codon usage analysis revealed 31 codons with RSCU &gt; 1, showing a strong bias toward A/U-ending codons. A total of 109 SSR loci were detected, the majority of which were located in intergenic spacer regions. Phylogenetic analysis clearly positioned E. tubulosa as an independent lineage within the Fabaceae, supported by high bootstrap values. The genomic information provided by this study lays a foundation for future research in molecular taxonomy, phylogenetics and conservation of this endangered medicinal plant.

Features and Phylogenetic Analysis of the Chloroplast Genome of the Medicinal Plant Euchresta tubulosa

<div>Background: The hilly areas of Uttarakhand embraces a large heirloom awareness of traditional medicinal plants. In Uttarakhand, medical facilities are very less in number. Due to unavailability of modern health facilities, poverty, connectivity with urban centre, awareness, etc people in hilly and rural areas are still depend on traditional medicines for their health care. Some of the communities are using wild plant parts for healthcare.&nbsp; 
 
Methods: Thus, a study was conducted to document the ethno-medicinal plants used traditionally in Munsyari tehsil of Pithoragadh District of Uttarakhand. Out of 219 villages under tehsil Munsyari, total five villages viz; Basari, Chhija, Diya Palla, Kheta, Kutima were selected purposively. Participatory Rural Appraisal, Group Discussion techniques were used to document the medicinal plants. 
 
Result: These medicinal plants are highly valuable and appropriate for economic upliftment of the region. People are dependent upon food, fruits, fodder and medicinal plants for their healthcare. Hilly people use these traditionally available medicinal plants for health and believe that these are easily available, less expensive and have no side effects as compare to modern medicine. Present scenario as deforestation, tourism affects medicinal plants. Thus, conservation of these species is necessary. Proper policies should be needed to conserve the forests and medicinal plants.</div>

Diversity of Ethno-medicinal Plant: A Study in Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand

<div>Background: Dairy sector has highly fragmented supply base and unique ecosystem of delivery resulting that a chain of value addition actors involved in its production and distribution. Value chain financing approach provides opportunities to develop equitable business models that better link all actors in the value chain. Accordingly, this study has carried out to assess the diversity of financial arrangements and the actors involved in dairy value chain in the Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The study also brings about the relatively prominent components/actors of the dairy value chain that could be emphasised while financing dairy value chain.&nbsp; 
 
Method: The value chain actors including milk producers have identified purposively and interviewed with well-constructed scheduled. The study has analysed on the data collected from 64 milk producers in 8 villages, 3 inputs suppliers, 8 milk collectors/assemblers, 4 milk transporters, 1 milk processor and 12 distributers for the year 2019-20.&nbsp; 
 
Result: The study observed that there is vast network of financing institutions have engaged in the financing of dairy value chain in the study area. Financing agencies have identified the set of activities associated with milk value chain and determine the structure of finance accordingly, in order to minimize costs, to maximize efficiency and to reduce risk. However, there are several informal mechanism of value chain financings also existed parallel to institutional finance due to informal sources are willing to lend money more easily without collateral. Relationships between actors in the value chain facilitate informal financial flows directly to his client actors is also observed in the study. The study has further inferred that among all the actors involved in milk value chains, the processor, producer and distributer have added greater value addition in comparison to other actors in the value chain.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Value Chain Finance to Dairy Sector-A Case Study of Eastern Uttar Pradesh</div>

Present study was conducted at Central Research Station of BAIF Development Research Foundation, Urulikanchan, Pune during 2013 to 2015 with an objective to determining the nutritive values and keeping quality of legume blocks. Leaf meals were prepared from sun dried leaves and chaffed twigs of subabul (Leucaena&nbsp;leucocephala), desmanthus (Desmanthus vergatus), sesbania (Sesbania sesban) and lucerne (Medicago sativa). Five blocks were prepared by adding molasses, corn flour, mineral mixture and salt. Chemical composition such as dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), crude fibre (CF), ether extract (EE), ash and silica content were determined according to standard analytical procedures. The chemical composition was more or less similar in fresh and stored legume blocks in all the recipes and did not vary much during storage. Further, no deterioration in colour, odour or texture was observed in storage, or any apparent contamination with mould. Among the five leguminous blocks, highest nutritive values in terms of CP, CF, EE, ash and silica were observed in sesbania legume block (22.17, 12.14, 3.52, 10.71 and 0.52%) followed by blocks of subabul (20.52, 10.61, 3.42, 10.72 and 0.81%) respectively. The cost of per kg production of leguminous block of subabul and sesbania was low as compared to lucerne blocks, which were Rs. 20, 21 and 29 correspondingly. All the goats offered legume blocks accepted them readily. All the blocks were offered to difeerent five goats for feeding and their acceptance and the intake was 100 per cent. &nbsp;Hence, the leguminous blocks prepared from sesbania and subabul leaf meal were selected as the best leguminous blocks as goat feed.

<div>Pulses assume special significance in the cropping systems and daily diets in India. Traditionally pulses are used for human consumption as dehusked seed splits after minimal processing. They are also the important ingredient of popular Indian snacks. The present paper reviews the research studies done on various components of value chain of pulses and draws upon the learnings. The value chains of pulses in India are long and complexed with a number of actors performing specific roles. The input providers, farmers, aggregators, wholesaler, commission agents, retailers, processors, millers, consumers, financial institutions, ware houses, researchers and policy makers together work to build the pulses value chains in India.</div>

Pulse Value Chains in India- Challenges and Prospects: A Review

<div>Background: Maize also known as Zea mays L. is a popular crop in most of the developing countries and cultivated across the world because of its nutritional benefits and its multiple use. Bihar is one of the major maize growing states in India. An analysis of production and its value chain will help the state in providing the further direction for policy making. 
 
Methods: The current study explores the status of maize production in Bihar in terms of growth rate and instability index based on the available secondary data for maize production in Bihar from 2000-2021. It also develops a framework of its value chain in the state based on the available secondary related to its inputs and production.&nbsp; 
 
Result: The study identifies that the production and yield of maize crop in Bihar have a positive growth trend with a instability ranging between low to medium in case of rabi and summer maize which shows that it is a promising crop in Bihar for improving the income of the farmers. The analysis of the maize value chain reveals that the cost of cultivation of maize in Bihar is ₹56047.96 per hectare whereas the cost of production is ₹1412.98, the major actors in the value chain includes small and marginal farmers, private agro dealers, Krishi Vikash Kendra (KVKs), ATMA, state and central agricultural universities and BRLPS along with Farmer Producing organisation.</div>

An Assessment of Maize and its Value Chain in Bihar

<div>Background: Medicinal plants are used for different purposes and in diverse uses of human beings. Medicinal plants have played key roles in the lives of local peoples living in these biodiversity rich regions by providing products for both food and medicine. A study was conducted in hill station of District Ramban (J&amp;K) in order to check the present status of medicinal plants diversity their abundance and for suggested utilization measures for residential peoples of the area. The current ethnobotanical study aimed to survey and collect the medicinal plants in order to document the traditional knowledge from the local peoples. &nbsp; 
 
Methods: In this field-laboratory investigation during 2019-2020, Three large sampling zones of Ramban District were surveyed and selected based on varied local data, altitude and latitude. In the laboratory, the collected medicinal plants were identified morphologically based on the valid Taxonomic keys and Herbaria 
 
Result: During the field survey, medicinal plants used by the local community were ranged from 68 to 79 plant species, which were 46 to 55 herbs, 13 to 15 trees, and 08 to 09 shrubs from selected sampling zones for treating various diseases and disorders. These medicinal plants are distributed in 38 families with diversity of Asteraceae family was dominant in all sampling zones.</div>
