<div>Background: Goat husbandry has been playing an important role in the economy of our country with special reference to milk, meat, manure and hide production. Bakerwali goat constitutes about 50% of the total goat population of J&amp;K. The liver is an extremely important organ in the body of mammals performing numerous functions. The liver is much heavier in young animals than older animals as it atrophies with age. The present study has been planned to record the micrometrical data about the liver of Bakerwali goat during different age groups. 
 
Methods: Liver samples were collected from slaughter houses of Nagrota in and around Jammu city of UT of J&amp;K during 2019-20.&nbsp;The samples were divided into young (below 1 year), adult (2-3 years) and senile (4 years and above) as per the dentition of the goats.&nbsp; Six samples from each age group were collected. The micrometrical observations were recorded on H and E stained sections with the help of an ocular micrometer duly calibrated with stage micrometer. 
 
Result: The capsule showed maximum thickness in adults followed by the young and senile age group. The maximum thickness of the capsule was seen at upper part of main lobe (UPOML) in the liver of young and adult whereas, in the senile group, the maximum thickness was seen at middle part of main lobe (MPOML). The diameter of the central vein showed the highest values in adults, followed by young and senile probably due to increased liver functions in adult. The mean values of length of hepatocytes ranged between 13.50 to 22.50 &micro;m in all regions of the liver of irrespective of age groups. The mean values showed higher values in adult and senile age groups. The nuclear diameter of the hepatocytes ranged between 9.00 to 13.50 &micro;m with mean values varying between 9.72&plusmn;0.58 to 10.05&plusmn;0.50 &micro;m in all the three age groups. The maximum number of portal triads per field was seen at ventral part of main lobe (VPOML) in the senile group whereas the minimum number was observed at MPOML in the young group. In general, several portal triads per field were highest in the senile group followed by adult and young.</div>

Gerontological Studies on the Micrometry of Liver of Bakerwali Goat

<div>Background: Benthic macro invertebrates have a sedentary and long life span, sensitive community response to organic loading, thermal impacts, substrate alteration and toxic pollution. They are regarded as the most informative bio indicators of water pollution. Macro invertebrates and water quality are interrelated to each other, as macro invertebrates are a potential indicator of water quality and therefore have been most frequently used in biomonitoring studies. 
 
Methods: The study area is the tailrace of Dikhow River, a 65 km. a southern tributary of the mighty river Brahmaputra. The stretch was demarcated into five sectors longitudinally. The study was done for a period of two years during which sampling collection was done using sampling methods. Appropriate sized net was used to sample macroinvertebrates. Identification was done using standard identification keys. Pollution tolerance of the species was measured using standard protocols. Using tolerance values, family biotic Indices were measured by Hilsenhoff standard protocols. 
 
Result: Number of pollution sensitive macroinvertebrates were found to be minimum in almost all stations indicating the level of pollution in the stations. Macroinvertebrates with higher tolerance levels were recorded in maximum numbercompared with the standard values to assess the water quality. A total of thirteen (13) species (Rhynchobdellasp, Physellasp, Soletelinasp, Gammarussp, Fenneropeneussp, Isotomussp, Caeniussp, Gomphussp, Lethocerussp, Hydrophylussp, Chaobarussp, Chironomussp) have been recorded during the study period. Among them the species with high pollution tolerance values were recorded in higher number during the study. While compared the family biotic indices as recorded from the stations with the standard data, then station I and station III have been found to&nbsp; be significant organic pollution and other three stations were found to be Fairly significant organic pollution.</div>

A Study of River Water Quality using Macroinvertebrates as Bio Indicator: A Case Study

<div style="text-align: justify;">Background: This article analysis 400 articles published in &ldquo;Bhartiya Krishi Anushandhan Patrika&rdquo; journal during 2016-2021 to ascertain year-wise distribution, authorship pattern, length of articles, subject categories and citation-wise distribution of articles. 
Methods: Bibliometrics is a set of methods used to study and measure the uses of documents and patterns of publication in which mathematical and statistical methods are applied.&nbsp; 
Result: We found a total contribution of 400 research outputs with the remarkable contribution of 1477 eminent scholars. The findings of the analysis represented that the maximum number of articles 75 with 18.75% sharing were published in 2016 and on the opposite hand the year 2020 got the minimum contribution got with merely 54 (13.50%) publications. The result of the study proved that joint authors contributed (380) to the majority of the publications. The study investigated, the minimum contribution average author per article 3.97 in the year 2017 and a minimum of 3.33 in the year 2021. The highest Author Productivity per year is 1.624. Veterinary Science got the first rank in the contribution of scientific research publication (97), Agronomy ranked second with 71 articles and extension education achieved the third rank with 40 contributions. It is noted that the maximum citation (4379 out of 955) were used in the year 2021.</div>

A Bibliometric Study of ‘‘Bhartiya Krishi Anushandhan Patrika’’ from 2016 to 2021

Background: Agricultural residues are a significant part of the waste generated in India. It is challenging for farmers to manage surplus crop residue sustainably because of large production and limited options. Ultimately, most farmers burn crop residue without giving it a second thought. Besides affecting the environment, burning crop residues also reduces soil fertility, soil nutrient content and soil organic humus levels by releasing greenhouse gases.&nbsp; 
 
Methods: This study was conducted to identify surplus crop residues available and their current uses. Vidarbha region in Maharashtra was selected for the study and cotton, tur and soybean crops were selected since these are the most commonly grown crops there. A man-to-man survey was conducted to determine the type and amount of crop residue available and how it is currently being used. Three farmlands in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra were selected for the study. Four different varieties of cotton, tur and soybean were grown on three farms. The yield and crop residue generated were measured per unit area. Analysis of crop residue availability was conducted using statistical methods.&nbsp; 
 
Result: Based on the study, it can be concluded that biomass waste is abundantly available and there is potential to generate bioenergy by utilizing agricultural waste effectively. Furthermore, the regression study shows that crop output is a major predictor of crop residue generated.

A Study of Generation and Regulation of Crop Residue: Bioenergy

<div>Background: Mudhol Hound the popular dog breed of Karnataka State, India has a long historical association with wars, hunting, social bondage, guarding and recently with the Indian army as a part of army&rsquo;s sniffer dog squad. Despite its unique qualities, the number of animals is getting reduced gradually. Hence the present study was aimed at molecular characterization of the Mudhol Hound which will be useful in maintenance of diversity of the breed.&nbsp; 
 
Methods: In this study, 26 microsatellite markers were used for the characterization of Mudhol Hound dog. A total of 50 blood samples were screened. Microsatellite loci were analyzed by running the PCR products on 6.5 per cent polyacrylamide gels followed by silver staining. Genotyping was done based on the banding patterns.&nbsp; 
 
Result: A total of 221 alleles were observed from the 26 microsatellites. The number of alleles ranged from 5 (AHTk211) to 12 (INU055, PEZ12) with a mean of 8.5&plusmn;1.9442 alleles. The average H0 and He were 0.7685&plusmn;0.2122 and 0.8326&plusmn;0.0397, respectively. The percentage of polymorphic loci obtained was 100 as all the loci studied were found to be polymorphic having the PIC values more than 0.5. All the 26 loci showed significant deviation from Hardy - Weinberg equilibrium (P&lt;0.001).</div>

Microsatellite DNA Polymorphism Studies in Mudhol Hound Dog Native of India

<div>Background: Haemonchosis is one of the major parasitic infestations in small ruminants. Haemonchus contortus is a highly pathogenic parasite that localises in the abomasum of affected animals and exerts its pathogenicity by blood-sucking activity, adversely affecting the health and productivity of animals.&nbsp; In recent years, there is widespread development of anthelmintic resistance against Haemonchus spp. Therefore, a sustainable strategy needs to be implemented to effectively control haemonchosis in goats. The aim of the present study was to find out the efficacy of herbal anthelmintic drug (Carica papaya aqueous seed extract) and haemato-biochemical alterations in Haemonchus infection. 
 
Methods: In this study, goats were screened for Haemonchus spp. by the FAMACHA technique. Hemato-biochemical examination was done before and after the therapeutic trial. Herbal anthelmintic drug was prepared from Papaya seed. In-vitro and in-vivo trial were carried out to test the efficacy of prepared herbal anthelmintic drug.&nbsp; 
 
Result: The present study showed that FAMACHA can be used for the early screening of Haemonchus spp. in a herd. Significant improvement in haemato-biochemical examination was found in the group treated with the prepared herbal anthelmintic drug. Thus, the herbal anthelmintic (Carica papaya seed extract) can be a good alternative for controlling Haemonchosis in goats.&nbsp;</div>

Clinico-therapeutic Studies on Haemonchosis in Goats

<div style="text-align:justify">The present experiments were carried out at Department of Horticulture, Dr. PDKV, Akola and Regional Research Centre, Amravati during the years 2013-14 and 2014-15. Fifty five genotypes of cluster bean were assessed for genetic divergence&nbsp;using Mahalanobis D2 technique. Among the characters studied in all four environmental conditions, gum content in seed&nbsp;(63.50%), plant spread (17.17%), number of primary branches per plant (4.65%), days to first flower (3.77%), hundred&nbsp;seed weight (2.09%), days to 50 % flowering(1.95%), seed to husk ratio (1.68%) and ten dry pod weight (1.35%) contributed&nbsp;95 percent to the total divergence. Genotypes were grouped into 8 clusters using Tocher&rsquo;s method. Cluster V was the&nbsp;largest group, involving 17 genotypes followed by twelve genotypes were grouped in cluster IV, eleven genotypes in&nbsp;cluster III and six genotype each in cluster I and II. The remaining solitary clusters (VI, VII and VIII) contained only one&nbsp;genotype each. The genotypes from the solitary clusters showed high divergence and useful in breeding. The intra-cluster&nbsp;distance ranged from 0 to 9.15. Cluster V possessed the highest intra-cluster distance (D2=9.15), followed by cluster IV&nbsp;(D2=6.34), cluster III (D2=4.71), cluster II (D2=3.31), and cluster I (D2=2.65). The clusters comprised of only one genotype&nbsp;had zero intra-cluster distance (cluster VI to VIII). The average inter-cluster distance reveled&nbsp; the maximum divergence(D&sup2;)&nbsp;between cluster V and VIII (D&sup2;=37.26) followed by cluster III and V (D&sup2;=29.92), cluster VI and VIII (D&sup2;=25.51). On the&nbsp;basis of inter cluster distance and performance observed in the present study a breeding programme involving genotypes&nbsp;for a specific character has been selected using cluster mean.</div>

Genetic divergence studies in cluster bean genotypes

<div style="text-align: justify;">The study was undertaken to understand the genetic architecture of Deccani and Nellore sheep breeds and to assess the genetic distance between the breeds. Allele diversity, genetic variability and population structure in the two breeds were estimated using 30 microsatellite markers. A total of 100 sheep, 50 each from Deccani and Nellore breeds were genotyped. The total number of alleles observed was 254 and 260 in Deccani and Nellore, respectively. The mean expected heterozygosity among the breeds ranged from 0.79 (Deccani) to 0.80 (Nellore) whereas the mean observed heterozygosity levels ranged from 0.77 in Deccani to 0.78 in Nellore sheep. The overall mean inbreeding coefficient was 0.029 in Deccani and 0.031 in Nellore sheep and of the 30 loci studied, 14 loci in Deccani and 16 loci in Nellore sheep showed negative inbreeding coefficient indicating the presence of outbreeding. However, eight loci (BM1314, BM6506, BM8125, ILSTS28, MAF70, MCM140, OarCB226 and OarFCB128) showed positive, mild to moderate inbreeding ranging from 0.007 to 0.25 in Deccani and 0.066 to 0.37 in Nellore sheep studied. &nbsp;The FIS values ranged from -0.372 to 0.74, FST values ranged from 0.001 to 0.172 and FIT values ranged from -0.370 to 0.728 between the Deccani and Nellore sheep breeds studied. The PIC values ranged from 0.498 to 0.886 with a mean of 0.773 in Deccani and from 0.574 to 0.894 with a mean of 0.777 in Nellore breed. The information generated from the present study will be valuable for setting conservation priority of these two breeds.</div>

Molecular genetic studies on Nellore and Deccani sheep using microsatellite markers

<div style="text-align: justify;">Neosporosis is one of the most major cause of bovine abortion with great negative subclinical economic effects on reproductive health and productive parameters in cattle throughout the world. Various commercial serological tests are used in diagnosis or epidemiological studies in the field. Different seroepidemiological studies of neosporosis in cattle from different parts of the world have reported seroprevalence values from 3.8% up to 76%. Data of the seroprevalence of neosporosis in dairy cattle in Turkey varies between 6% and 32.7%. This study is planned to determine the seroprevalence of &nbsp;Neospora caninum in 519 dairy cattle from different locations of Diyarbakir province. The overall seroprevalence of neosporosis in dairy cattle was found as 7.9% in Diyarbakir province.</div>

A study on serostatus of neosporosis in dairy cattle in the Diyarbakir Province of Turkey

<div>Background: The clinical study was designed to evaluate the haemato-biochemical changes in sheep affected with babesiosis and therapeutic regimes of various drugs used against babesiosis. 
 
Methods: A total of 24 clinically affected sheep with 6 animals in each group were selected for the haemato-biochemical and therapeutic study. The diagnosis was based on clinical manifestations, microscopic examination of blood smears and molecular confirmation of Babesia by PCR technique. For therapeutic study Group I, II, III and IV were treated with imidocarb dipropionate, imidocarb dipropionate+oxytetracycline, diminazene aceturate and diminazene aceturate+oxytetracycline, respectively. 
 
Result: The clinical signs recorded were high fever, pale mucous membranes, presence of ticks, inappetence, coffee-coloured urine and diarrhoea. The vectors identified were Haemaphysalis ticks. Hb, PCV, TEC, total protein, albumin, calcium, phosphorus and blood glucose were significantly (P&lt;0.05) lower in the diseased group as compared to healthy animals while TLC, globulin and iron levels were significantly (P&lt;0.05) higher compared to the healthy control group. The study revealed that the combination of imidocarb dipropionate and oxytetracycline was highly effective for ovine babesiosis.</div>
