CHANGES IN OVARY DURING PRESPAWNING PERIOD

ABSTRACT
The ovarian cycle of Channa marulius and Channa gachua had been divided into four stages, immature/preparatory phase, maturing/prespawning phase, matured/spawning phase and spent/post spawning phase. Here in present work only prespawning phase of both the spp of fishes were taken into consideration for biochemical analysis. High values of glucose, glycogen, lipid, proteins, phosphatases DNA were observed. These constituents are present in higher concentration in the ovary for physiological activities.
