ABSTRACT
Distribution studies of enrofloxacin and gentamicin (5 mg/kg, Lv.) revealed that significant
decrease in plasma drug concentrations at most of the time intervals were noted for both the drugs while significant increase in uterine fluid levels of enrofloxacin and gentamicin were noted at all time intervals in cows with endometritis as compared to healthy animals. Further, therapeutic concentration of 0.12 Ilg/m1 in uterine fluid was maintained for a longer time (1 to > 24 h) with enrofloxacin while therapeutic concentration of 4 Ilg/ml was maintained for a shorter time (1 to 8 h) with gentamicin in cows suffering from endometritis. Hence, the study recommends the parental administration of enrofloxacin @ 5 mg!kg once daily while a dose of 5 mg/kg of gentamicin by parentral route twice ndaily for effective therapy of susceptible bacteria causing endometritis in cows.
