SEMEN CHARACTERISTICS OF PUNGANUR BULLS*

ABSTRACT
The present investigation was carried out to study the semen characteristics of Punganur bulls. The overall mean ejaculate volume (ml), mass activity (0-4 scale), individual motility (%), sperm concentration (millions/ml), live sperms (%), sperm head abnormalities (%), acrosomal damage (%), mid piece abnormalities (%), tail abnormalities (%) and total sperm abnormalities in neat semen of Punganur bulls were 3.25 ± 0.15, 3.26 ± 0.06, 72.85 ± 0.71, 1427.25 ± 3.77, 79.34 ± 0.33, 4.25 ± 0.07, 4.75 ± 0.07, 1.97 ± 0.27, 4.25 ± 0.08 and 10.46 ± 0.12, respectively. Significant differences in ejaculate volume, mass activity, individual motility and live sperms were observed among the bulls.
