1Department of Seed Science and Technology.

G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. Pantnagar - 263 145. India
ABSTRACT
Soybean {Glycine max (L.) Merrill) contains 40 per cent high quality protein and 20 per cent good quality oil and plays a major role in world food system but suffers from poor seed quality. The environment has considerable influence on the development and quality of seed. Plant breeders need to give more attention to incorporating resistance to unfavourable conditions into cultivars of acceptable types. Knowledge of the seed characters may contribute to improve seed quality.
